Seals, Sea Lions & Humpback Whale
August 1, 2018
This afternoon we headed west to our first stop, Race Rocks Ecological Reserve. Here we were able to see the second oldest lighthouse on the west coast along with the residing harbour seals, sea lions, and our one sea otter. Now that mating season for our sea lions is coming to an end, the bachelors have been making their way back here. Stellar sea lions, the larger tan ones, are making their way down from up north while the California sea lions are coming back up from California. We were given quite the show by some arguing Stellers and then watched our sea otter, Ollie, fluffing up his fur. On our way out of Race we were able to spot a humpback and get some spectacular views of their overwhelming size before we headed back to Victoria harbour.
