May 31, 2017 – J-Pod Orcas
May 31, 2017
As most days begin, today we could not wait to get off the dock. Beautiful skies, calm water, and reports of J-pod near by, we darted off East this morning. We were able to catch up with J-pod as they traversed North along the Haro Strait. Members were spread out along the straight with many individuals close to shore, offering scenic photographic moments as they passed Lime Kiln. A fan favourite, J-27, Blackberry, provided guests with an excellent view of his vibrant saddle patch. This 26 year old male showcased his large dorsal fin as he travelled along, most likely with his younger siblings Mako and Tsuchi. Although J-pod consists of an entire extended family, the whales generally travel closer with direct family members. On our way home we had a great pass through the Chain Islands featuring several great looks at bald eagles, and tons of harbour seals. Until next time, Blackberry!
