April 17, 2016 – Bald Eagle, Sea Lions & J-Pod
April 17, 2016
Sunny conditions greeted us as we headed out east towards Haro Strait. Within 45 minutes we were with J pod of the southern resident killer whales. Blackberry and Doublestuff spent 15 minutes cruising along beside us. We even go to see one of J pods newest calves, J-53! With still some time left in our tour, we stopped at the kelp reef marker to view a few Steller sea lions as well as a lone California sea lion. A couple sSeller seas lions began lunging and mock fighting before our eyes. To finish the tour we headed through the chain islands to check in on the Harbour seals and witnessed a very unusual sight. A mature Bald Eagle sitting among a large group of gulls. It almost seemed as though they were his minions! Flat calm waters waited for us on our return through the Juan de Fuca Strait.
