Super Pod of Orcas! – June 15, 2015
June 15, 2015
J pod, K Pod, L Pod!! Over 40 Southern Resident Killer whales! 20 minutes out of the harbour and we find them cruising by Trail Island. Our first look at an almost super pod! Breaching, spy hopping, pectoral and fluke slapping. It was hard to know where to look! We got to spend almost 2 hours cruising with these super star animals all the way over to San Juan Island. As we all know that’s where the best Salmon is, so a perfect place to leave them. The wildlife didn’t end with the killer whales however, Harbour seals and a stunning Bald eagle finished off a great morning for everyone.
Beautiful sunny afternoon found us speeding off to San Juan Island. All to catch up with everyone’s favourite Killer whales. On the way we had a surprise close look at one of Victoria’s diesel/electric submarines- way too cool! This of course was only the start of what promised to be a great afternoon. K- pod all around us happily feeding along False Bay. We had one stellar member of K pod give us quite a few good looks. Mr. Cappuccino otherwise know as K – 21.
